Each engagement is conducted by one named practitioner from the opening appointment to final delivery. Nothing is subcontracted. The family knows who they are dealing with at every stage.

English and Bahasa Malaysia sessions

Sessions run in whichever language the household is most comfortable with. Mixed-language households can use both. The practitioner follows the family's lead, not the other way around.

Clear boundaries — referrals where they belong

Legal, financial, and valuation questions are outside our scope and we say so promptly. Families leave each session knowing exactly what our work does and does not cover, and who to approach for what it does not.

Digital collections are delivered to each household via an encrypted transfer method agreed in writing before the engagement begins. No cloud platforms are used without the household's explicit knowledge and consent.

Consistent photographic standards

Object photography follows a neutral-field protocol — same lighting, same background, same scale reference — so the catalogue remains visually consistent and the images are useful to professionals who may later need to identify an item.

Tools chosen for durability, not novelty

Digital outputs are produced in standard, non-proprietary formats so they remain readable without specialist software. Printed outputs use formats and paper weights that archive conservators consider stable for decades of ordinary storage. Nothing in our toolkit requires a subscription to remain accessible.

This kind of work is most often done during or just after a difficult time for a family. Every session is conducted quietly and without pressure. Oral history recording as standard

The Family Archive and Handover Programme includes a recorded oral history session with an elder family member — conducted at the family's pace, on topics the family selects. The recording is delivered to the household as part of the digital collection. This is not offered as an add-on: it is part of the programme.

A printed handover brief for whoever comes next

The archive programme produces a written handover brief — a plain document explaining how the collection is organised, where each section can be found, and what steps a family member would take to locate any given item. It is written for the person who was not involved in building the collection.

Separate encrypted copies for each household

Where a family has multiple branches, each branch receives its own encrypted copy of the digital collection — not a shared link or a single password circulated among relatives. Each household's access is independent and does not depend on any other household remaining reachable.

Annual condition review built into the programme

Archive programme clients receive a condition review of the physical collection each year for the twelve months of the programme, at no additional charge. Fragile items that have deteriorated are flagged with referral information. The finding aid is updated to reflect any changes the family reports.
